Activities and suggestions for walks and other trips
You have a wide choice of walks and hiking trips on Stord.
There are many marked trails that bring you out into the countryside where you can view the rich cultural landscape. Guided tours of Folgefonna Glacier are also available if you want to experience the glacier at close hand. Other activities include golf, Pitch and Put, taking boat trips, canoeing and kayaking.
The longest marked bicycle trail in the world, the North Sea Route, goes through seven countries and straight through the municipalities of Sveio, Stord, Fitjar, Bømlo and Austevoll.
If you come by car, ask for the touring map; "Bilvandringskartet" (map of car trips) at the hotel. The map contains suggestions for trips ranging from one to three hours, starting from and returning to where you have parked your car. You can also take trips on the fjord on a veteran ship or an old sailing ship. Several walks, both marked and unmarked, are in the lowlands and in the hills. In addition, more than 110 km. of dirt roads crisscross the forests. The tourist information desk in the "Kulturhuset", bookshops and some sports’ shops sell maps or, if you want, we can have one available when you arrive.

Some recommended walks:
Landåsen
The most popular walking area on Stord is Landåsen. This area is a ten-minute walk from the centre of Leirvik. Take the footpath past Kulturhuset up to Vikastemmo and continue past the little lake to the pedestrian crossing just short of the Statoil petrol station at Vabakkjen and you are there. Other good starting points are located at Lønningsdalen, Vassenden, Valvatne and Skjepåsen.
Nesskogen
Another popular area is Nesskogen at Sætravik (Sagvåg). This area is only 3 to 4 minutes drive from Sagvåg.
Hystadmarkjo nature reserve
A two kilometre long path that passes through the reservation from Storhaug in the South to Sæverhagsvikjo in the North. Hystadmarkjo is the largest black alder wood in Northern Europe and a very popular place walking. 16 bronze-age burial mounds and a well maintained cholera cemetery can also be seen here. Signs with information are placed at intervals along the path.
The heritage and nature trail at Huglo
A 5 km. long trail has been made at Huglo, the largest island in the municipality. The trail passes a disused copper mine, ruins of lime kilns and Kuhidlaren, an archaeologicalsite dating back 3500 years.

the region of Sunnhordland, in the County of Hordaland on the western coast of Norway.The town covers the southern half of the island of Stord in addition to the islands of Huglo and Føyno as well as couple of smaller islands.
